National Indigenous People’s Day

May 23, 2025

June 21st - National Indigenous People’s Day. Powwow details.

In recognition of National Indigenous People’s Day, on June 21st, the National Indigenous Committee and the National Values and Beliefs Committee have put together a list of Powwows in different areas. We encourage you to attend with your family if you can. If you're interested in attending any of these events, Members should abide by our Union’s Values and Beliefs. Members are in attendance on their own behalf and not as a CUSW representative, and Members need to check the specifics of the Powwow they want to attend (some Powwows may not be open to the public or may have additional rules and regulations).

Here are a few quick do’s and don’ts:

At a Powwow, spectators should demonstrate respect for the dancers, the ceremonies, and the cultural significance of the event.

This includes respecting the sacredness of the dance circle, listening to the MC, and seeking permission before taking photos.

  1.  Bringing alcohol, drugs, or firearms is always prohibited.
  2. Regalia should never be called a costume.
  3. Never touch a dancer's regalia.
  4. Bring cash to purchase and support vendors.
  5. Participate and have fun!

For any questions, comments, or concerns, or more information please contact [email protected] or (Indigenous Committee email?).

Miigwetch, Thank you,
The National Indigenous Committee and the National Values and Beliefs Committee
