In this episode of the CUSW Spotlight Podcast, 𝗗𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗺𝗮𝗻 is having a discussion with 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱, 𝗖𝗨𝗦𝗪’𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 about the work happening behind the scenes to represent skilled workers across Canada.

Jason explains how he builds relationships with government officials, industry partners and other organizations to make sure the voices of CUSW members are heard when decisions are being made about skilled trades, apprenticeships, major infrastructure projects and workforce development. He also discusses why it’s important for CUSW to have a seat at the table, bring forward practical solutions and build trusted relationships with government at every level.

But the conversation takes a more personal turn when Dan asks Jason about something that has shaped his life: his 30 years of sobriety.

Jason opens up about addiction, recovery and the changes sobriety has brought to his life. He talks about rebuilding trust, becoming the father he wants to be, and learning to take responsibility for his actions. He also shares why he wants people who are struggling to know that they are not alone, that support is available, and that every person is worth helping.

Dan shares parts of his own experience with addiction, creating an honest conversation between two people who understand that recovery can change the course of a life.

This episode offers a different look at someone members may know by his job title, while reminding us that there is a personal story behind every person we meet. It’s a conversation about representation, recovery, trust and why it is important to support and help one another.
