null Empowering Women in Trades
In the traditionally male-dominated field of trades, women have long faced barriers to entry and advancement. However, times are changing, and organizations like the Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW) are leading the charge towards greater diversity, inclusion, and opportunity. At CUSW, we recognize the invaluable contributions of women in trades and are dedicated to supporting and empowering them every step of the way.
Supporting Current and Future Tradeswomen
One of our primary goals at CUSW is to support both current and future tradeswomen as they navigate their careers. We firmly believe that when women feel supported and empowered, they not only excel in their roles but also become invaluable mentors and leaders within their industries.
Through mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and ongoing support services, CUSW aims to create a nurturing environment where tradeswomen can thrive. Whether it's providing guidance on career advancement or offering resources for professional development, we are committed to ensuring that every woman in the trades has the tools and support she needs to succeed.
Understanding Barriers to Recruitment and Retention
Despite progress in recent years, there are still significant barriers to the recruitment and retention of women in the trades. At CUSW, we understand the unique challenges that women face in this male-dominated field, from stereotypes and bias to lack of representation and support.
By actively listening to the experiences of tradeswomen and conducting research on industry trends, CUSW strives to identify and address these barriers head-on. Whether it's advocating for policy changes, implementing targeted recruitment strategies, or providing specialized training programs, we are committed to breaking down barriers and creating more inclusive workplaces for women in trades.
Feedback and Fresh Ideas for Inclusion Initiatives
At CUSW, we believe that diversity and inclusion are not just buzzwords but essential principles that drive innovation and success. That's why we actively seek feedback and fresh ideas from our members to inform ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is further exemplified by the formation of the CUSW National Tradeswomen Committee in 2021. This committee serves as a platform for tradeswomen to voice their concerns, share insights, and advocate for change within the union and the broader industry. Through regular meetings and collaborative initiatives, the committee empowers tradeswomen to have a direct impact on union policies and programs, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
Through surveys, focus groups, and consultation sessions, we engage with tradeswomen to understand their needs, concerns, and aspirations. This feedback informs the development of policies, programs, and initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all members.
CUSW Applications are Open to All
At CUSW, we are proud to announce that both our journey person and apprenticeship applications are open to women. We firmly believe that talent knows no gender and are committed to providing equal opportunities for all aspiring tradeswomen. Whether you're a seasoned professional looking to advance your career or a newcomer eager to learn the ropes, CUSW welcomes you with open arms.
By opening our doors to women at all levels of experience, we are not only expanding opportunities but also enriching our union with diverse perspectives and talents. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive workforce that reflects the vibrant tapestry of our society.
CUSW is dedicated to supporting women in trades by providing the resources, mentorship, and advocacy needed to succeed. Through our ongoing efforts to understand and address barriers to recruitment and retention, as well as our commitment to feedback and fresh ideas for inclusion initiatives, we are paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive future.
Together, let's break down barriers and build a brighter tomorrow for tradeswomen everywhere
