CUSW Has a New President!
The National Board elections took place on Friday, June 30th. After 18 years as President, and one of the founding Members of CUSW, Joe Mulhall decided to retire. His leadership and dedication to making CUSW a 21st Century union is why we are all here today. Thank you Joe, for your vision, guidance and commitment!

2017 CUSW Hockey Tournament
Fairway and Bruce Unit co-winners of 2017 Hockey Tournament
After a hard fought "A" final, Fairway Electric and Bruce Unit remained tied after regualtion and instead of a shootout, the teams decided to leave it as a tie. In the "B" final, Greater Durham Unit defeated the Northern Unit squad.
By all accounts, this year's Tourney was one of the best yet. Stay tuned for info on next year's tourney on the Hockey Tournament information page
2017 CUSW Family Fishing Derby
All CUSW Members, Family and Friends are welcome to the 2017 CUSW Family Fishing Derby! Last year was the best Derby yet.
June 23-25th, 2017
at the Anchor Bay Camp in Lakehurst, Ontario.
There will be a pig roast along with a barbecued chicken dinner. Retirees and their families are most welcome and encouraged to come fishing or at least visit for the day and enjoy the dinner put on by the CUSW members.

Skills Ontario Competition
Taking place May 1st-3rd, 2017, the Skills Ontario Competition is Canada's largest skilled trade and technology competition.
The Skills Ontario Competition offers a unique opportunity for top students to demonstrate that they are the best of the best in their field. Over the two and a half days, they turn the heads of their educators, family, friends and prospective employers. Winners are awarded with Gold, Silver or Bronze medals - and some with monetary awards, too - and the opportunity to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition. From there, competitors could be headed to a WorldSkills Competition.
In addition to contests, the Skills Ontario Competition has a number of components, including:
- Career Exploration Showcase
- Young Women's Conference
- First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) Student Conference
- Closing Ceremony

AllianceLearning.ca New Courses Released
A total of 46 new online career boosting courses have been released at AllianceLearning.ca. As a CUSW member, you are entitled to a 75% reimbursement from the Training Trust Fund, taking the cost of each course to a low $10. Learn more about the Training Trust here.

3 New E-Learning Courses Launched to CUSW Members
We’re excited to announce the launch of 3 new courses, open to CUSW members. Members can access the courses using their CUSW sign in.
Workplace HS Rep
Learn all about the role of the Workplace HS Rep in this NEW one-hour on-line course! As we head towards an election year in CUSW, this course is very timely since one of the first elections of the year will be for your Workplace Health and Safety Representative. In this one-hour course, you will learn all about the role of the Workplace HS Rep as well as the skills needed and the duties required.
Sign into AllianceLearning using your regular CUSW user ID and password and look for this new course under the “HS Rep Specific” tab.
This 45-minute course is perfect for Members who want to learn more about what is involved in the negotiation process. You will learn about the history of how Collective Agreements and the right of Canadians to bargain collectively with their employers came to be. This is the perfect place to start if you have an interest in participating on your workplace's Negotiating Committee.
Negotiating a Collective Agreement
If you are interested in stepping forward to participate on your workplace's Negotiating Committee, this course is for you! During this 60-minute on-line course you will learn about: negotiating strategies; the components of a Collective Agreement; determining the purpose and scope of an agreement; and an introduction to the terminology used in Collective Agreements.
Please Note: this on-line course is a pre-requisite to the face-to-face training that is provided by the National Negotiating Committee.

CUSW Members Participate in Bruce Power Aboriginal Employment and Business Forum
This past spring, CUSW members participated in an important event in Owen Sound. The Bruce Power Aboriginal Employment and Business Forum is an annual event where local Aboriginal people can learn about careers in Ontario's electricity sector. As members representing CUSW, Jarrod and Jason were able to discuss our Apprenticeship program and how to apply to become an apprentice with interested attendees.

Bruce Unit Donates to the Grey Bruce Hospice Facility Project
Congratulations to the Bruce Unit on raising $4500 for the Grey Bruce Hospice project!
The project began in Spring 2016 and is on it's way to building Chapman House – a community-owned and operated, permanent, free-standing residential hospice.
